It has been said that the percentage of white children within our school systems will decrease. Although, the percentages of children who are colored, that attend school will increase. The United States will be known as the only country that left as an education system that will not serve a majority of its children. Gaps within the educational system will be problematic and could cause significant issues. The U.S. News did some findings and discovered the constant gaps within the races of, black and white Americans. In the year 2010, the United States used up thirty-nine percent of their full time elementary and secondary students compared to the average of other countries, when it comes to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, this information comes from the National Center of Education Statistics. Another thing, I learned from reading this article was that us, Americans when it comes to education are still struggling with issues. It starts with the fact that there is a huge gap between white and colored students. Although, it has been more than 60 years ago since the Brown vs. the Board of Education case, the United States school systems still stand as separate and unequal today. I still believe that even though there are different races within the school system, we should still treat each student the same and help each student reach their goals as well as, help acknowledge what each student’s needs and learning styles are to help them become successful within the classroom. I would say that areas this article could benefit from that we should stop comparing different races to one another and just find ways to help each child succeed so that we can help him or her get onto the right path and succeed in school. It breaks my heart that still racism goes on today. My goal is to help benefit each child within my classroom and help them achieve their goals to where they need to be at the next grade level.
