Graff agrees when he writes, “Perhaps so, but since no one was asking me to think about the relationship between the two courses, I did not” (340). As he reminisces, he explains how education is broken up with selective ideas and knowledge that students are not making connections and effectively learning. The focus and determination of all students and professors is an issue that Graff and Edmundson are trying to get across, they both believe that it takes both the instructor and students to have a successful education today. Graff also recalls when he was a student he noticed something odd which he says, “I hardly focused at the times on the fact that my two teachers were in disagreement” (339). He mentions how he dealt with a similar issue in his school experiences when he only did what he was asked to do as well. Graff explains the importance of contrast he expresses how fundamental it becomes in American education for students to successfully learn. As I mentioned earlier, Mark Edmundson, Gerald Graff and Jonathan Kozol all introduced an issue they believed to be causing problems in our educational systems. Students are always exposed to problems especially in education. I introduced Edmundson ideas about how he believed that students are not understanding that we have education to grow and learn from.
