Describe The Role Of Effective Communication In The Workplace

Communication is key to success in any relationship be it personal or professional, and I pride myself on clear, concise, and direct communication along with an ability to bridge divides with people from all walks of life. Communication is not just speaking, it is listening, learning, and understanding. I have been enriched by working with people from disparate backgrounds, be it cultural, ethnic, or economic, and seek to make common ground and foster open and honest dialogue wherever possible. I believe it is essential for a leader to get out from behind the desk and into the trenches of the organization to talk to people face to face. I encourage people to discuss what they see and how they see it, and respond to their worries and aspirations. People desire to know how the organization is doing financially, how objectives are being achieved, and how what they do contributes to achieving those objectives. The primary tools I employ for fostering communication are the mission statement and the chain of command.

Employees need to know what is expected of them and need to be given the training, tools and resources to accomplish their goals. They need to be held accountable for achieving their goals by a direct supervisor who can mentor them and encourage their professional growth. I identified the existing informal leaders of our care group, and appointed them as lieutenant-supervisors, in charge of training and mentoring new recruits, providing progress reports on new hires and suggestions for where their skills and interest could be most effectively deployed, and communicating to me the needs of the staff and
