Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. As a result of my aptitude to convey ideas well, communication is one of my most prevalent skills. In addition, my ability to understand the situations of others makes empathy a strong suit. Conversely, I am deficient in having courage to stand up for what is right. Though I have a hard time showing courage, communication and empathy are my clearest strengths, resulting in a determination to stand up to peer pressure.

Growing up as an only child, I’ve always been required to possess the ability to communicate with adults. Whether it was just simply greeting them at the door or small talking, I was always forced into the spotlight. These awkward at first interactions forced me to develop the capability of small talk and eventually built up the confidence for me to start to convey my ideas to others, especially those with seniority over me. This confidence has led me to impart my own take on things, especially in English class. Even if it turns out that I am wrong, I still attempt to communicate my thoughts in order to be peer-reviewed and see how my perspective compares to others. Another instance in which I utilize my communication skills occurs whenever I am having a problem with someone, which isn’t very often. Instead of ignoring them, I communicate my issue with them in an effort to resolve the problem and move forward. No matter how frustrated someone makes me, I rarely intentionally avoid them because I believe that if I can effectively communicate the perspective I hold on a complication with someone else, I can resolve the problem or, at worse, agree to disagree.
