Just about everyone feels occasionally sad or blue. These feelings usually only last a few days and pass. When you suffer from depression, it effects daily life and causes torment for you and those who care about you. Depression is a sever medical issue that involves the brain. Depression is one of the most common emotional disorders and affects more than 20 million people in the United States alone. Because of a lack of knowledge by society about certain mental disorders like depression, people that suffer from mental disorders are subject to stereotyping. Because of these misguided stereotypes and usually false information, many people are considered to be crazy or emotionally unstable.
There are several different forms of depression, which people may suffer from. Major depression disorder (MDD), severe symptoms that interfere with your ability to work, sleep, study, eat, and enjoy life. An episode can occur only once in a person’s lifetime, but more often, a person has several episodes. Persistent depressive disorder, depressed mood that lasts for at least 2 years. A individual diagnosed with persistent depressive disorder may have episodes of major depression along with periods of less severe symptoms, but symptoms must last for 2 years. Psychotic depression, which occurs when a patient has severe depression plus some form of psychosis, such as having disturbing false beliefs or a break with reality (delusions), or hearing or seeing upsetting things that others cannot…
