The author Karen Armstrong shares a brief explanation on why the crusaders are to blame for the various misperceptions in the Muslim religion including their reason behind the unjust violence. Armstrong also mentioned how the Muslim cared little for the crusades until a feud was created between the Ottoman Empire and Europe. Unlike the Muslim who were misunderstood to be violent but the Ottoman Empire as said in this chapter viewed as a weak and defenseless empire. Moreover, she also uses those reflections of the Muslim's history in the modern eras such as War World I and War World II to emphasizes one of the reasons behind them were because of the feud between Europe and Ottoman empire. As a result of so many centuries, it has its benefits because the Islamic tradition, practice, and history expand throughout the west even the crusades didn't want to.…
As Brooks argues the deficiency of the current school system, the article forms with a persuasive tone which attracts readers to his discourse. Furthermore, analysis of the documentary: “ Most Likely to Succeed” encompasis tone throughout the writing. Such style utilizes summaries: “Its main activity is downloading content into students’ minds, with success or failure measured by standardized tests.” Opinion occurs when proposing a question after refuting the claim by the article which Brooks obtains a question. With this, the tone continues with seriousness and exponential buildup to his final conclusion of the documentary thus producing listed statements: “Second, there is pattern formation, linking facts together in meaningful ways.”…
Barbara Brody, writer for WebMD, stated in an article reviewed by Joseph Goldberg, MD, that food providing our bodies with fuel is not the only reason for eating. Emotions can have a strong impact. For this chapter what I found very interesting was the experiment done by Jane Elliott. While watching her video I found myself becoming frustrated with the way she was treating the blue-eyed people. I am very aware of racial issues that colored people are experiencing in our society today. I am not defending racial discrimination, but I don’t think its fair to say that white people aren’t discriminated against like black people are. Its not fair to judge a whole race of people based on one persons actions.…
In this intricate Memoir, the author, Merri Lisa Johnson offers her readers a chance to place themselves in her shoes, it gives you an inside perspective a woman living with BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder), and how it affects her everyday life and relationships. Which I’d have to say was eye opening for me. In this paper, ill refer to her character as Johnson. Her five year journey of writing this book and what it entails will not leave you disappointed, it definitely took my emotions on a constant roller coaster of highs and lows; it opened the door and gave me a new attitude when it comes to those who suffer with this disorder. The Memoir began with Johnson telling the story of another,…
Katherine Fitzpatrick does not only suggest that digital publishing has changed the very notion of authorship and the way a work is communicated to the world, but she suggests that embracing the new technologies that have infiltrated the ways we communicate, can help people feel more comfortable with themselves and their writing. Fitzpatrick claims that we need to “rethink our authorship practices and our relationships to ourselves and our colleagues as authors.” This, to me, seems like a very ambitious statement, especially so because it is predicated off of what the implications of digital authorship may be- a topic which on the surface seems to have only a tenuous association with the idea of relationships with our peers in any capacity. Fitzpatrick realizes the scholarly discussions surrounding authorship are mostly theory based; that there has been no actual framework intentionally put in place to change the notions of authorship.…
Today, grammatical faults are common occurrence and the importance of understanding English prose has lessened. John McWhorter’s article “Why Kim Kardashian Can’t Write Good” reviews how our generation, particularly Kardashian, are less likely to have “essay-level writing skills.” He debates whether writing skills are even necessary to our current society. McWhorter is able to maintain the reader’s attention throughout the article; he deviates from the usual Kim Kardashian themed articles. Although he is a well spoken and skilled writer, he avoids mocking or reprimanding the subjects of his article.…
First Doctor in Doctor Who, said, “Until then, there must be no regrets.” This a quote I love because he has a point. That 's until I get the results of my research to help my community, and I will do my research with no regrets. I have seen great success in the programs that consist literature and linguistics in their curriculum. The articles that I have reviewed consist information that will help my research; my research is to introduce linguistics and literature to assist Hispanic students to learn English.…
