Cultural Intelligence and Multicultural Awareness Initiatives Cultural intelligence has been found to be an important criteria for modern business leaders. It is the ability for individuals to relate and to work with others well across different cultures. It is defined as “the leadership capability to manage effectively in culturally diverse settings [and] is a critical leadership competency for those with cross-border responsibilities” (Rockstuhl, Seiler, Ang, Van Dyne & Annen, 2011, p. 825). Many large corporations operate globally, with the overall number of multinational corporations only to grow as technology bridges the gap between different countries and cultures. This is true for the American brand most recognizable to the international market, including Coca-Cola, Dominos, McDonalds, and many others. These brands understand the power of attracting international markets and growing their international workforces. They continue to develop products and services specifically designed for international clientele and find ways to employ more international employees within their organizations.
Having a strong cultural intelligence is especially critical for business leaders working with international clients or employees, as is common in modern businesses. Without a high level of cultural intelligence, it is unlikely that a leader within an organization can be effective in managing the diverse teams and business units currently found within large organizations today.…
