This distrust of government is understandable, but government has good intentions at heart. Many people in New Orleans believe their government abandoned them because of Katrina, so they think “why should we rely on someone who does not care about us?” They feel as though their government failed them, so the only way to live is through crime and murder. When people distrust their government, they start to break the law as retribution, for what they perceive as injustice. People want to do things they have been told not to do, like a child doing what their parent told them not to do. Many people believe crime is the only way to succeed because they were instilled this mantra throughout their lives.
