Even with that mentality, I no longer feel any resentment or anger when I think about the events that transpired. I have come to accept that although the entire situation was horrible, these experiences are just a part of life. The way that we react and adapt to these situations determine the outcome even more than the event itself. When we are pushed to our limits, we learn more about ourselves and just how much we can overcome. The process of reflecting on Hurricane Katrina has made me remember that I am extremely lucky. I had a home and a school to come back to after the storm and it is important to not take that for advantage. I have also learned that maintain my faith and believing in God is extremely important, no matter how difficult. I believe that because of the hurricane, I have been inclined to be more compassionate towards those struggle around the world. Having seen desperation and struggle happen in my own backyard, I can empathize with those who face similar situations. Despite the immense recovery that the city has made, there are still parts of New Orleans that bear the marks of the hurricane. These few stricken areas serve as reminders that the healing process is ongoing but we are heading in the right
