What is a knowledgeable employee, and what logical steps can one take while approaching a possible solution to any situation in the work place; while using verbal and non-verbal communication while helping access the problem. As we all know people work for many different reasons, most of them will tell you they work to earn a living through that of earning a paycheck, however, this isn’t necessarily true; for there’s many other reasons why people chose to work. One example, “All the reasons people work and the motivation behind these reasons combined with the reasons of all the other people in an organization to form an amalgam- organizational behavior” (Drafke, 2009, pg. 9). So, what exactly is non-verbal communication, it’s sending and receiving messages through the usage of kinesics, proxemics, paralanguage; and haptics. In the case study between Mark and Lynn, Mark exhibited a couple of these non-verbal cues; one of them was accenting, another was contradicting; and lastly was repeating. When someone is using accenting in the messaging to another their trying to gain control of the conversation, by drawing attention to themselves; like when Mark was looking up at the ceiling and out the window. Another communication barrier was when Mark tried to contradict Lynn, by insisting of taking control of whom was to delegate the workload, by this Mark is showing Lynn his true colors; However, though this wasn’t possibly intentional and he was unaware, he was sending the wrong non-verbal cues to Lynn. He (Mark) continued the communication channel by constantly repeating his verbal, and non-verbal cues throughout the whole conversation; by continuing to stay in charge of the situation while using unnecessary gestures; and expression through that of emphasizing his desires. After receiving the message that Mark sent to me to be decoded, my immediate response would be to let Mark know of my intention to (regulate) the overall messages he’s sending to me; by re-gaining control of the meeting once again; and by letting him know who’s boss in an appropriate manner (substituting). This would be my two choices of non-verbal communication were Mark is concerned, by choosing these non-verbal communication styles I’d be letting Mark now of my intention of taking back control of my obligations, but also showing him and others that their input is much needed; and appreciated for us to be on the
