Mary is a vulnerable adult and is at risk of abuse because she is an elderly lady with mental health problems and isn’t as strong as she use to be.
Mary lives in a full time care home where she gets all the support she needs.
To reduce the risk of abuse of Mary, she needs to build a supportive relationship with her doctor/ nurse or counsellor.
Mary would be able to trust her nurse more if the nurse used the core principles of care which are: dignity, equality, respect, fairness and privacy.

Methods of communication- In the care home the care workers will need to use different communication methods for example:
Verbal- Verbal communication is when the care worker orally talks to you.
Non verbal- Non verbal communication is communicating with the residence not orally for example, BSL, written, symbols or technology.
By there being different ways to communicate with the residence this can help the risk of abuse and neglect because there wont be any frustration when communicating with the residence.
Respect for culture- Respecting the residence culture means you don’t discriminate against them because of their culture. This would reduce the risk of abuse and neglect because they wont be abused because of their culture the care workers will respect them
