Conflicts about racial tension and inequality are everywhere, but I believe that like many problems in life, the answer should not focus on what we did wrong, but how to make things right. I have been able to handle these situations learning from people who have been in my position before. Some of the best lessons come when we look back and seek wisdom, perspective and invaluable advice from people in the past. This gives me hope about the changes I can make for my place in society as well. I believe that it only takes a person with big aspirations and goals to make it happen, and I want to be part of the generation that brings changes to my community. I am not planning on working only towards my own benefit, but towards a change that will benefit this whole world. I believe that my legal situation won’t improve by using violence or screaming and insulting the people who are causing the discrimination. If I want to see a change, I have to make a difference first by showing others how beneficial it is to have immigrants contribute to this country instead of being marginalized. For this reason, I am trying my hardest in everything I do. Thinking that I deserve the chance to go to college, to qualify for scholarships, and to be able to dream like anyone else. Being first is something to feel proud for and for my family it is already a source of pride to know that I am graduating college being the first one in my family accomplishing something like this. However being the first one to go to college makes them feel even better about coming to this country. Besides all of the good things that come on being the first one, there are also mistakes and failures altogether. Going through college application, scholarships are things my parents haven’t done before, so it is very hard to them to help me through this process. I have a dual responsibility: first, I must go through this process while I explain to my parents everything and secondly getting into college and graduate so my family can set up a new standard for education in my family.
