Concentration Camps
A concentration camp was a horrible place Jews were sent to so they could be killed in numerous ways. Some main concentration camps were Auschwitz-Birkenau and Belzec which were located in Poland. Also Bergen-Belsen and Buchenwald which were located in Germany. These camps tortured the Jews slowly and painfully. Jews could only imagine being called up and having to go to these horrible camps where the Nazi would inflict pain on them. The idea of concentration camps brings up a dark time in German history where anyone one repetition who went against the Nazi regime were forced to go into these camps where they would be gassed, injected with toxins, or starved to death. One of the worst camps of all was Auschwitz-Birkenau, which was located in Poland. A Lot of people died in this camp according to a count from this camp :“between 1940 and 1945 are: Jews (1,095,000 deported to Auschwitz, of whom 960,000 died); Poles (147,000 deported, of whom 74,000 died); Roma (23,000 deported, of whom 21,000 died); Soviet prisoners of war (15,000 deported and died); and other nationalities (25,000 deported, of whom 12,000 died).” ("Concentration Camps, 1933–1939"). This many people died all from one camp because they didn't have the same perspective on some things. These numbers are unbelievable and horrifying. Here is a quote from a person who survived from this camp and also what they experienced in the camp, “I, of course, have, um, unfortunately a lot of memories of, um, of the hospital and, um, the doctor's office... And also being in the hospital and being very sick. And, um, I know one time, when I went to the doctor's office, that they took blood from me and, it was extremely painful because it was from the left side of my neck... I also remember having blood taken out of my finger, ... And I also remember having to sit, um, very still for long periods to be measured and, or weighed, or in X rays... I remember injections. And then I'd be sick… having a high fever, because I know they were taking my temperature, somebody was… They're a nightmare. Hospitals are out of the question and illness is unacceptable.” (Fold3). This is what most people experienced in Auschwitz-Birkenau camp injections and some people like girls got it worse here is an example, “The girls in this camp were raped and slaughter for the amusement of the guards” (Fold3). That's how some people were treated because they were different like dolls for the Nazi to play with when they got bored. Also the Nazi forced jews, gypsies, and poles into labor to do work for them. All this about one camp is very saddening to hear because these people did nothing to the Nazi. Then there was Belzec which was also located in Poland, which had …show more content…
The gassing chamber was “only 1,620 feet from the Belzec railway station” ("Concentration Camps, 1933–1939"). Then there was a place where they were transported into the gassing chambers called the tube. This is some information about the tube and the gassing chambers,“A narrow enclosed path called the "tube" connected the two sections of the killing center. The reception area held the railway siding and a ramp. The area where the mass murder took place included the gas chambers and mass graves. Rail tracks ran from the gas chambers to the burial pits”("Concentration Camps, 1933–1939"). Then they also had a small staff controlling the camp “(between 20 and 30) and a police auxiliary guard unit of between 90 and 120 men” ("Concentration Camps, 1933–1939"). Most of the guards for the camp were soviet prisoners of …show more content…
This number”500,000” (Fold3). isn't just a random simple number its how many innocent Jews,Poles, and Gypsies lost their lives for their beliefs. Image being killed for loving Christ or killed because you spoke in church against the preacher. That's an example of how it was. Now is it right or wrong that's what you believe, but this camp gassed people with toxins to kill them to make their death slow and painful. Why so they could suffer for their “wrong
