Computer Mediated Communication Differences

Managing impression and Identities start from the moment a person walks into a room. When you are looking at a person, you are looking at how they walk, how they look and how the person smells (Bevan & Sole, 2014). Our identities are shaped by how we feel others look at us (Bevan & Sole, 2014). If a person is going for a job interview, the interviewer will use impressions the interviewee gives off, toward whether or not they get the job. If the interviewee is not wearing professional clothes, does not shower, and does not make eye contact, then the interviewer might think the person does not want the job. The interviewer would not want to take the time to interview them and rushes through even though the person could be perfect for the job. …show more content…
When using computer-mediated communications the person needs to keep in mind that it is a professional setting and that the person knows what they are doing in the job. The person can talk to them professionally back. Bevan & Sole (2014) talks about verbal and nonverbal communications. When using computer-mediated communications the person can not see the face of who they are speaking. Nonverbal and verbal communications is another key point to remember. Using the computer makes it hard for the recipient to understand what the person is saying. Without using verbal communication then they can not hear the tone they are using. The recipient could assume the tone in their head. If the recipient is mad, then the email could come off to them as rude or mean, even though the sender was in a jolly mood and was writing it with a smile on their face. When using these key points, it will keep me on track to have good computer-mediated communications. Using professionalism in my emails will allow the recipient to treat me professional. They would not think I do not understand what I am doing and treat me that way. The other way is by understanding emotions are not to be in formal emails. It would allow me to understand that I need to keep a clear head when reading emails and not perceive emotions onto
