The Incarnation and Icons There has been great debate over the centuries about whether it is appropriate, or not, to use an icon of Jesus in worship or religious practices. Those that are against the use of an icon believe that this practice violates the second of the Ten Commandments because it can be seen as idolatry. On the other hand, those that are for the use of an icon believe that it is justified by the doctrine of incarnation; Jesus used a physical body to accomplish a spiritual work the same can be said for the use of icons. The painting, Prince of Peace, was created by an 8 year old named Akiane Kramarik, and depicts Jesus Christ. She derives her inspiration for this piece from visions that has had had since she was a young girl.
