Two Similar Worlds
The Authors Sandra Cisneros and Jhumpa Lahiri share the rewards and challenges of being multi-cultural. In Cisneros’ “Only Daughter” and Lahiris’ “My Two Lives” The author’s describe their multi-cultural upbringing and how their family lives and adapted to another way of life. Also how there experience influenced there writing careers with their similar experiences and perspectives. A comparison of the details in there respective essays even though they are from different cultures they show there similarities.

In Lahiris’ “My Two Lives” she says “ What drew me to my craft was my desire to force the two worlds I occupied to mingle in a single page, as I was not brave enough or mature enough to allow it in my life.”(PG569) And in Sandra Cisneros’ “Only Daughter “ she states “ My father represent the public majority, a public that is uninterested in reading, yet I am writing and about, and for, and privately trying to woo. “(PG563) In both of these passages they both come from separate countries and are both faced with many immigration challenges with being in a new country. Even though they both come from total opposite sides of the world, they both share the struggle of having to please there parents with their cultures ways of life. Both authors write because it’s the only way they know how to express the way there feeling about the tough times that they went through. Only through words on a piece of paper could they describe there true feeling about moving to the United States, Due to the immigration process and all the differences that moving from one country to another would
