"Life is a matter of perspective" (Gray, n.d.). This quote by Stephen Gray illustrates that people need to look at the positives of their life instead of the negatives. About 1/3 of the innocent Jewish population was killed, slaughtered, beaten, for their beliefs alone. Imagine being in the shoes of Elie from the novel Night and Joshua from the movie, "Life is Beautiful." Being at such a young age, they both had to grow up faster than most kids their age. They had to mature and keep calm throughout this tragic time as well as being precise with their decisions. The purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast these two characters in their unique, scurrilous situations during the Holocaust. The purpose is also to compare and contrast the novel and movie as a whole. In the novel Night and the movie "Life is Beautiful," the Holocaust is portrayed both similarly and differently through the development of the main character, the father/son relationship, and the theme of faith.
