6 million innocent European Jews died in the Holocaust. In the memoir Night, by Elie Wiesel, the author is sent to a concentration camp under horrid, unimaginable conditions. Everyday he fights for his life and protects his father. In Life is Beautiful, Joshua believes he is playing a game, but really, he is in a concentration camp with his father. This helps both Joshua and his father fight to stay healthy and keep their spirits up as they deal with reality. Night and Life is Beautiful have many similarities; for example, both stories are about a father and a son who struggle to survive in concentration camps. Though both stories are tragic tales, they impacted many people. However, these stories also have some differences, such as the relationships and the purpose. In Night, the father-son roles switch and it is a terrifying tale full of truth and reality. In Life is Beautiful, the father-son roles stay the same, and the plot was more of a comedy and romance, and was mainly a story. Although they are similar stories, Night by Elie Wiesel is more effective at telling the story of the Holocaust because it offers more detail about what actually happened and shows the reality of it. Night is more effective because the mood and tone is much darker compared to Life is Beautiful, so it gives a more realistic sense of the Holocaust and what it was about. Night had a greater effect than Life is Beautiful because it was more realistic. In Night, the story had a greater impact on people because of the horror and details of the work as a whole. Night portrayed the Holocaust for what it really was, a genocide that killed six million innocent
