Community In The Eucharist Analysis

According to Morrill, in the Christian tradition, assembly is one of the most important ways that we can connect with Christ. In his Encountering Christ in the Eucharist he argues that “ The community of faith can only exist through the sharing of that faith, which is focused in its ritual form of worship (Morrill 21). As a young child I used to get impatient when my mother spent time after Church, with what I viewed as nonsense prattling. Now that I am older, I can see the importance that community is to the Church. Church communities are not only formed when the assembly is participating in the liturgy or service. The ways that a Church community fellowships with each other outside of service also builds a sense of community with each other. …show more content…
Unlike Marymount, Salisbury University and The University of Mary Washington does not have a religious affiliation. Although at sports events Christ might not necessarily be the primary focus, the conduct of the players and attendees should focus on fostering good competition and sportsmanship. Players on both teams did a job of being sportsman like. Unlike other games that I have both watched and played in, neither team argued with the calls that the referees made which can be common during games. Both teams also played to the best of their abilities without seeming to be nasty or cruel to one another when the momentum would be with the other team. On the other hand, some of the parents of the Salisbury players I observed as not having very good sportsmanship. Some participated in taunting of the referees when they believed that they made a bad judgment. Students from Salisbury who attended the game also participated in this behavior and even extended it to taunting Mary Washington’s coaches and players. This behavior is nothing new to the world of sports especially in professional circle where there are various stories of fans getting into brutal fights. Although sports do a good job of teaching us about dedication, unity, and sportsmanship when it becomes something that fosters violence we all need to reassess what importance it holds in our life. 2 Timothy 2:5 says, “Similarly, anyone who competes …show more content…
Everyone, young and old, was participating by singing. I felt like because this was not a typical service those in attendance were ones who were excited about The way that the community also accepted and prayed for those who shared some private and intimate moments of their life where they struggled was also another way that the assembly made Christ present. After each testimony the congregation said a prayer over each individuals for God’s grace to continue to ne influential in their lives. The way that an assembly interacts with each other is one way they can make Christ’s presence known. This specific community did this by performing prayers of intercession on behalf of their community members. I also enjoyed how the congregation fellowshipped after the service, which I thought was one way that the community was making Christ present without being involved in the liturgy right at that moment. As typical with the annual Thanksgiving service, people had brought canned goods and turkeys that were to be given to families who could not afford to buy the food necessary for their thanksgiving meal. There are many instances in the Bible where Christ makes it clear that it is our duty to take care of our neighbor, which is really anyone who is present in our lives that we can make an impact on. The community of Immanuel’s Church accomplished making Christ present in a

Spanish Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church 1. What happened during the services? I arrived at the church a few minutes prior to the service and I was greatly surprised by how well attended the service was. There were dozens of families in a spectrum of Sunday best and work-stained denim jeans and nearly every person wore a yellow and white vest with a red cross embroidered on the lapel. At the entrance there was a small dipping well and although there was no water in it at the moment, (most likely due to the sizeable crowd) people still placed their fingers in the dry well and crossed themselves before entering the chapel and before sitting, they would cross themselves again.…

It is not rare that the media jumped to the coverage of this case, mainly because it involved the sports’ team of an elite university as it is Duke and because the “victim” happened to be African-American. Not only did the university’s administration and faculty rushed to turn their backs to the lacrosse team, but they also rushed to judge them. With president Richard H. Brodhead’s public statement that they were not going to support the lacrosse team in any way and then later, as a ramification of the scandal, the abrupt and impetuous cancelation of an entire season. Not to mention the Group 88 a response of disapproval from the faculty towards the lacrosse team. The News & Observer, which has a circulation of around 180,000, including 10,000 copies in Durham County, printed an irresponsible front-page article on the entire case.…

“We are the misfits” was one of the last messages told by the pastor of the Evangelical Waterspring’s Chruch at 10:45 AM at 4250 25th East. After a long sermon of scripture, that was the leaving message before one final hymn performed by a very professional band. “We are the misfits” and their definition of a church as “people who shouldn’t be together but come together for the common goal of Jesus’s love.” I’d never particularly expected a saying like that to come out of a church or minister. In my experience, church and religious peoples were the norm, the majority, and sitting there surrounding by people swaying and singing and saying “amen” between pauses, I felt like I was the outsider.…

Essay Concepts and abstract thought within counseling, and indeed Christianity in general, needs to become active in our lives. Aside from this, there is little point to studying the concepts, as it all becomes head knowledge, instead of a way of in which we live out our lives. Counseling in the Local Church taught with an aim of taking ideas into turning them into things which fuel vulnerable community within the church. I was affected by the class through the material, the thoughts presented, though did come away with some questions. While there were many readings which piqued conviction and consideration for the subject of church community, it was Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Life Together which had the greatest impact on my life.…
