Nonverdinary Communication Skills

As important as job performance and teamwork may seem without communication neither of those would be possible. Communication is extremely important in the workplace. In the medical field, communication is the major building block of helping out patients. Individuals working in the medical field should have extrodinary communication skills. There are four types of communication methods which will be discussed in this essay and they are: verbal, nonverbal, written, and electronic. Verbal communication is the most common method of communication used by normal people on a daily basis. Verbal communication refers to the sounds being spoken in-order to convey a message. In Delmar’s Comprehensive Medical Assisting chapter 5 Therapeutic Communication Skills, it says, “the book Legal Nurse Consulting Principles and Practice, edited by Patricia W. Iyer, identifies the five Cs of communication. Manker discusses the advatages and disadvantages of written communication. She says that one of the advantages is “Provides written proof in case of a dispute.” Every piece of paper in the medical field is a legal document and having a hard copy of a document will come in handy when verfying certain things in the workplace. A disadvantage that she mentions is “Lack of Secrecy.
