Communication is key to the success of any organization. Communication needs to be clear and concise so that others can understand the intended message with minimal confusion (Marquis & Huston, 2015). Nurse leaders are responsible for using effective communication skills with clients, colleagues, superiors, and staff members (Marquis & Huston, 2015). Furthermore, the roles include the initiator, information seeker, information giver, opinion seeker, elaborator, coordinator, orienter, evaluator, energizer, procedure technician, and the recorder (Marquis & Huston, 2015). Other roles include the group building and maintenance roles such as the encourager, harmonizer, compromiser, gatekeeper, standard setter, group commentator, and the follower. Furthermore, there are individual roles of group members as well and they include the aggressor, blocker, recognition seeker, self-confessor, playboy, dominator, help seeker, and special interest pleader (Marquis & Huston, 2015). Often this defense mechanism causes a form of resistance and engages in unsafe practice (Haynes & Strickler, 2014). Furthermore, when there are opportunities to engage in a safer more effective practice, it is important to embrace these practice changes. Therefore, when looking ahead, it will be important to try to eliminate the blocker role from my individual contribution, and I will seek a more beneficial role such as the harmonizer, or standard setter to assist my managers and leaders during the group communication and delivery
