Cognitive psychology is a study of mental processes. This type of study is based on how people think, perceive, remember, and learn. The internal processes of cognitive psychology are attention, language, perception and memory. It also focuses on how people store and process information. Cognitive refers to knowing, which is how we understand and process the mind of a human being. Psychologists study the information that is in a person’s mind and calls that the stimuli. They study how the stimulus leads to response. There are a few differences between cognitive psychology and other types of psychology. He came up with a theory that involved the cognition in children. He did some testing to reveal the cognition difference abilities in children. Before Piaget came up with his theory, it was known that children are less understandable thinkers than adults. Piaget claimed that children’s minds understand at a different level than adults. Piaget noted that children are born with a basic mental structure in which knowledge is based. There are a few ways in which Jean Piaget’s theory is different from others. One way is that this theory is based upon children whereas other theories include people of all ages. The theory is based on development and not the learning of information or behaviors. His theory also is based on specific areas of development rather than complex behaviors or ideas. Attention refers to when the cognitive process system gets overloaded and he brain has to determine which information it wants to keep to use later in the future. Judgment and decision is referred to a brain and how it makes decisions. Any type of human behavior requires judgment and then it requires a decision to be made from the judgment. Perception includes the 5 senses and processing of what we sense. What a person senses plays a part in what we already know. Problem solving is a way in which people achieve goals.
