According to Occupational Outlook Handbook, psychologists study cognitive, emotional, and social processes and human behavior by observing, interpreting, and recording how people relate to one another and their environments. This field fascinations me for the reason that I aim to assist people when life throws them a curve ball. I intend to accomplish a difference in someone’s life and truly being a helping hand. When I took the Kuder Skills Confidence Assessment, my Holland code occurred to be SCI. The Holland code matches the career I intend to pressure since the S stands for social, the C stands for conventional, and the I stands for investigative. Becoming a psychologist, you need to contain social skills (S), be organized (C), and be able to abstractly ponder your clinic’s problems (I).

The two upper division courses in my major are PSY 3100- Developmental Psychology and PSY 4370- Introduction to Clinical and Counseling Psychology. These courses will be useful in this field since “PSY 3100 provides an overview of the empirical evidence regarding physical, cognitive, social and emotional changes that occur from conception to death and PSY 4370 introduces students to major perspectives and practices in contemporary clinical and counseling psychology (APSU Undergraduate Bulletin).” According to What Can I Do With This Major?, a few high impact strategies they suggest are: part job or summer jobs as a camp counselor or a tutor, complete an internship for academic credit, volunteer with organizations such as a crisis hotline, Big Brother Big Sister, Special Olympics, etc.. I have already signed up to volunteer at Big Brother Big Sister, just waiting for them to contact me back, and I have worked at a hotline for troubled teens. I would love to acquire a summer job as a camp counselor and complete an internship. These opportunities would benefit my career and me; they are preparing myself for the future; Big Brother Big Sister and being a camp counselor will
