Christopher Johnson McCandless wasn’t entirely like the average person who lives out in the wild. By that I mean he wasn’t hippie-like, wasn’t incompetent, a sociopath, or even necessarily an outcast. McCandless was something else - although it is hard to say. Almost like a pilgrim who journeys for both tranquility and adventure.
He was like a pilgrim who goes on a journey for both tranquility and adventure because he had to escape from the lifestyle he was living, and journey into a world in which he was more comfortable with, yet having a good time exploring at the same time. Sure, some people can say that it is cruel to simply leave your parents and other family members behind, but as evidence shows, his parents were not necessarily good people who truly loved him. They would often fight in front of him, scream at him, and his father would even beat his mother in front of him and his sister as well. If he was not comfortable living around those type of people anymore, it was only the right thing to do for him to live his own life away from everyone else in the wilderness, and it did not necessarily effect anyone in a negative way at all.
Personally, I feel like McCandless was seeking solitude, and an escape from his lifestyle. He was seeking solitude because he was uncomfortable with the people around him, like his parents for example. He was as well seeking an escape from the lifestyle he was living in mainly because of what was occurring at home. He simply could not stand the way he was living, and he was not at ease and had to do something about it and leave. I feel like this was a good decision for him, and it made him happy.
To conclude, Christopher McCandless was not necessarily an sociopath, nutcase, or even necessarily an outcast. He was tired of the way he was living his life at home, and felt like he had to leave it and go out into the wild, which he did.
