Childhood Obesity- Put an End to It According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, “Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years [and] more than one third of children and adolescents [are] overweight or obese” (“Childhood Obesity Facts”). Childhood obesity is an epidemic that is sweeping the nation, and not enough is being done about it. Childhood obesity is not just affected by one influence but it is a result of mixed influences including parents and schools. If both of these influences work together to educate, to guide, and provide healthier options to children, childhood obesity can be reduced substantially. Obesity is rising in America. Obesity has long term negative health effects on adults. The article states that, “Obese Americans spend about 42 percent more than healthy-weight people on medical care each year” (Ambinder). Obese Americans are more likely to spend more money on health care. If they chose to spend their money on buying healthy foods they would not have to. If they can control their weight now they can reduce their chance of getting a chronic disease in the future which costs a lot of money. Childhood obesity does affect many children around the United States.
