Children Obesity in America Over the past few decades’ children obesity rates in America have tripled. Approximately one in three children in America is overweight or obese (Obesity by the number). Childhood obesity has increased drastically gaining the attention of health care professionals and parents ().The main concerned is that childhood obesity will then lead to adult obesity causing serious health problems. Childhood Obesity is a devastating epidemic happening in children today. Obesity is defined as excessive accumulation and storage of fat in the body (Obesity Information). Obesity is measured by body mass index (BMI) a common scientific way to screen whether a person is underweight, normal, overweight, or obese (Cause and symptoms). Her goal was to solve the challenge of childhood obesity in today’s society so children could grow up healthier and be able to pursue their dreams (Let’s Move). Let’s Move foundation wants to bring awareness to the country of such a serious health problem. The foundation also, gives helpful information to parents, school, and the environment about healthy choices. “Ensuring that every family has access to healthy, affordable food, and helping kids become more active” (Let’s Move). One of the vast changes that this foundation has made was providing healthier lunches at schools, since children spend most of their time there. Schools have replaced junk food, unhealthy snack and unhealthy beverages for healthier opinions. As a result to replacing unhealthy foods at school “2008-2011 for the first time in decades, obesity rates among low income preschools has dropped by 19 states” (Obama.)
