In the article Kentucky Illustrates National Obesity Crisis Wil Haygood writes “The kids around here, they’ll eat cornbread and taters for lunch. They’ll get a 20-piece chicken meal. It’s killing them.” He also writes “There is that feeling of clean you plate’ in many of the homes around here. You don’t throw food away. I grew up with that very thing being said to me: ‘Clean your plate”. That doesn’t mean go wash your plate. It means to finish all the food on the children’s plate. Sometimes it is right for parents to tell the children to finish their food on their plate when the children are underweight, but most of the time it’s wrong because parent’s are forcing their children to eat more even when they are full. As working parents you don’t want to waste food, because it cost money and people around the world can’t even afford a good meal. But yet food can be put in the refrigerator for the next day to eat. It’s just not good for the health of our children later on their lifetime. Letting children eat junk food will not help, if our child ask for a snack make them a snack just don’t give them a whole bag of chips to eat, not only do we need to be better educated on childhood obesity, we also need to encourage active lifestyle for our …show more content…
We all know that it is really hard to stop the obesity problem. But people can start at their homes especially the parents. Parents can start letting their children be active every day and try everything they can to educate the children about obesity and what are the consequences of being obese. People should learn how to live healthy daily lives. Learning how to eat healthy and prepare food for your children is also a good start. Don’t blame the fast food industry cause you’re the one taking the children there. Start cooking more at the house instead of going out to eat four to five times a week. Play with the children outside more, instead of letting them play on their phone, tablets, video game, and surfing the web! Limit screen time! Until the parents take action against obesity it would lead to major health problem for our children and the next
