Dave Pelzer once said, “Childhood should be carefree, playing in the sun; not living a nightmare in the darkness of the soul.” Child abuse is when a parent or a caregiver, whether through action or failing to act, cause injury, death, emotional harm or risk of serious harm to a child. Child abuse comes in different forms. Children are abuse either through neglect, physical, sexual, exploitation, and/ or emotional abuse. Child abuse is a lot more than bruises and broken bones, while physical abuse is visible to the human eye other forms of abuse also can leave emotional scars. When you ignore children’s needs, leaving them alone, putting them in dangerous situation, or even making a child feel worthless or stupid you are participating in child abuse. No matter what type of abuse it is, it will still cause emotional harm to the child. Even though physical abuse is visible, children can also receive scars from emotional and neglect. Physical abuse is more than just someone beating on their child. Another form of physical abuse would be sexual abuse. Childhood neglect usually happen when children are born with young parents. Neglect can have an serious long lasting effect. Neglect can be when you leave a child home alone or even worst when the child dies from malnutrition or being denied the care they need. Neglect can be really hard to identify. There are a few ways to know whether a child is being neglect but it must be on a daily bases. Which includes: poor appearance and hygiene, health and development problems, and /or housing and family issues. Children who have been neglected are mostly to experience mental health problem.
