Child Abuse In America

Child abuse is a very serious problem that is happening here in America, right in our backyards even. Today, people in America would like to believe that child abuse only happens in third world countries, so they just push it aside and will not acknowledge, or even talk about how it is happening right here in America. However, our societies definitions of ‘child abuse’ vary depending on what generation you are apart of, how you were raised and where you are from- if you are from the city or country, and what state you live in or grew up in. As Americans we have guidelines as to what child abuse is, however not everyone knows what these set guidelines are and are not educated on the topic of child abuse. It is okay to give a child a spanking but it doesn't need to leave a mark on the child either. If the parent chooses to spank their child, spanking their back end three times in sufficentant enough to let the child know that they did something wrong and not to do it again. However, I think that the parent needs to tell the child why they are being punished, if the child ‘cursed’ then they need to be let know that that type of language is not acceptable to …show more content…
Child abuse is a serious thing to look at and all around a sad thing to look at too, however I am going to provide some child abuse cases to prove just how serious it is. The article, 2 Kids found dead in freezer in Detroit, describes about a mother who was arrested for killing her two children. The police were issuing the woman a eviction notice but she was not home so the police did a house search, and what they found was staggering. When they opened up the deep freezer they found a bag, a bag with two dead bodies. They guessed the body of the boy was around the age of eleven and that the body of the girl was around the age of fourteen years old, however later an autopsy was done and they found out that the boy was nine years old and the girl was thirteen years old. Horrified at what was found they asked people in the neighborhood if they had any idea of where the woman was. One of the neighbors told the police where to find her and after finding her they arrested her for the murder of her two kids. The woman had two other children who were living with her during the time she was arrested and they were taken and put into foster care and now are doing better than ever. This case of child abuse is just one in millions that happen every year, granted that they might not always be this severe but it's something that is still happening, something that
