In Ender’s Game, Orson Scott Card shows the qualities a good leader needs, including skills such as motivation and strength, competitiveness, and outspokenness.

In order to be a good leader, skills such as motivation and strength need to be in one’s arsenal. An example of this is when Ender confronts Graff for “calling him out” in front of his peers during the launch for being more intelligent than them. Ender argues that this pedi stool he was put on by Graff is causing other kids to not like him. Graff stands by his words earlier and says, “And that's being so good at what you do that they can't ignore you. I told them you were the best. Now you damn well better be.’’ (Card ch. 4). The launch groups need a good leader to lead them to victory

When Peter and Val are talking, Peter is skeptical of Val leading. She argues that the opportunity for her to lead is out there and she needs to take advantage of it. Val says, “The world is always a democracy in times of flux, and the man with the best voice will win.” (Card ch. 9). This passage shows how this world in Ender’s Game is a world where only the strongest survive. A vocal leader needs to step up because in the end, it will be the one that steps up and takes advantage of opportunities and does so vocally who wins. No one wants a quiet leader in hard times because then they seem uninterested and not confident. People will psychologically think this leader isn’t confident in his abilities and therefore will lose trust in them. In baseball, if the manager/coach isn’t vocal, the team will fall apart because there is no communication. He needs to be able to talk to his players and help them improve, or make adjustments in positioning during games. All this requires outspokenness. It has been proven through studies by psychologists that a team and leader who communicate feel more confident in their …show more content…
Rose the Nose of the Rat Army is telling Ender that he recruited him to his army so people wouldn’t think that the only reason he wins is because he has good soldiers, and that he can win with a little soldier like Ender. He then explains the three rules of his army to Ender, and Card reveals what Ender is thinking about. After explains the two rules, Ender realizes the third rule is to win. Ender says, “The message was clear. Winning is more important than anything.” (Card ch.8). In this novel, you need to be competitive and want to win or else you will be killed by the buggers. A leader needs a desire to defeat and a winning mentality. For a leader to not want to win is bad, because then the team won't want to do better. Everyone wants to win, but for a leader to be competitive and drive you to win, that is even better. During sports or life in general, you need to have some competitiveness in you because it will make you want to do better and work harder. A football team can't be any good if they showed up and decided they didn’t want to win the game. Instead, a team and coach wants to show up and prepare to destroy the other team. Then, the whole team will feel the same and want to win also, so they gain

Also, the violence while in battle school made the children being in the characters more disturbing because of the actions they took. I possess a quality of leadership that is as rallying as it is unyielding. I often find myself arriving at a decision, planning on how to accomplish this goal and standing by it. Although, this trait this can presumed as stubbornness, I place great emphasis on being a leader that presents herself as a figure of strong resolve but also as someone others can come to in a time of need. In my experience, by being a leader that serves as the foundation for her peer’s personal growth and prosperity will find this in return from them. However, this does not include yielding to faulty excuses or covering up what is lacking.…
