In the Ender’s Game by Orson Scott, the author uses irony to create meaning and conflict in the story. Some of this irony includes Enders treatment as a peer to the other kids, he is treated poorly but comes out on top. Also, Ender's personal conflict with being a hero. First, in the Ender’s Game, Enders age creates meaning in the story through the flipped image of adults no longer being the smarter and more wise age group. Now kids 9, 8, 7, and even 6 years old are smarter. This also shows conflict with the severity of the war and how desperate the human race can be. This adds meaning of the after war conflic and the problems that war causes way after it is over. An example of this is when Ender exclaims his grief over killing the buggers only to save a few billion people, “...save milions of lives. While I killed Billions,” [Page 312 Chapter 15]. This shows Enders distress on how the end of this war has made him relize his mistake and the truth by him driving a race to extinction. If Ender was told he was going to be a hero why does he not feel like one nor want to be one. He now feels like a murderer instead of somewho saves lives. Ender doesn’t feel like a hero even though he is one but still a hero to one may be a villian to others.
