Friar Lawrence was the character who did actions on his free will that contributed the most to the goresum ending of the play. Not only did he join the star-crossed lovers together in marriage in the hopes that it would end a family feud, he trusted Friar John to deliver a letter to Romeo without telling him how important the letter was. A letter of such importance should be dealt with personally. If Friar Lawrence delivered the letter to Romeo in Mantua himself, the plan would have been more successful.
