In the story of Romeo and Juliet, there is a priest named Friar Lawrence. Friar Lawrence helped Romeo and Juliet be together, hoping that would end the feud between the Montagues and Capulets. Further into the story, he was ultimately the reason for both Romeo and Juliet’s death.
Friar Lawrence is the one to blame when both Romeo and Juliet died. He did not know what he was doing when he agreed to marry Romeo and Juliet. “O, she knew well thy love did read by rote, that could not spell. But come, young waverer, come, go with me. In one respect I'll thy assistant be, for this alliance may so happy prove to turn your households, rancor pure love” (2.3.94). Friar Lawrence is basically saying I don't believe you, but I will marry you guys for the sake of your families feud. Friar Lawrence is illegally marrying them. He came up with a huge, complex plan, that went over the top. “Take this vial, being in bed, and this distilling liquor drink thou off; when presently through thy vein shall run a cold and drowsy humor; for no pulse shall keeps his native progress, but surcease. No warmth, no breath shall testify thou lives”(4.2.174-175). He gave Juliet the sleeping potion that makes you sleep for forty hours. But the potion also makes you look dead, and why would he do that the her, and her family. Lastly, when Juliet woke up he ran away, afraid to get in trouble and let Juliet kill herself. “I hear some some noise- Lady come from that nest of death, contagion and unnatural sleep”(5.3.174-175). He is saying come on we have to go, before I get caught giving you a potion for a fake death/sleep. She replied”Yea, noise? Then I’ll be brief O, happy dagger, this is thy sheath- there rust and let me die”(5.3.150).
