2: The novel is told in first person style by Nick Caraway. Naturally since it is his story that is being told, he begins by telling the reader a little about himself. Almost instantly Nick seems to recognize her face though he cannot remember from where. Nick finds himself awkwardly apologizing under his breath for no reason when he first meets her as if her acknowledgement of him was something to be sorry for. He is instantly attracted to her slenderness and simple charming features and as he puts it, “I enjoyed looking at her.”
5: Nick knew Gatsby was the name of the man who lived next door to him. However it was not until returning from dinner at Tom and Daisy’s that he put a face to the name. Rather he put a figure to the name since he saw Gatsby only at a distance and only for a brief moment. Gatsby had emerged onto his lawn and Nick saw him reaching out towards the bay. Nick followed his gaze to see he was seemingly reaching for a green light. When Nick looked back at Gatsby, he had mysteriously disappeared.
6: Almost as soon as Nick meets Tom again since their New Haven days, he senses the overwhelming arrogance that accompanies Tom’s personality. He even notes that even in their time at New Haven Tom had been hated by many people.
