Changing the drinking age from 21 to 18 would be a benefit to many people. “Although drinking by persons under the age of 21 is illegal, people aged 12 to 20 years drink 11% of all alcohol consumed in the United States”(Facts Sheets). There are many pros and cons of the age limit to when someone can start drinking. Some examples of lowering the age is “turning 18 entails receiving the rights and responsibilities of adulthood to vote, smoke cigarettes, serve on juries, get married, sign contracts, be prosecuted as adults, and join the military - which includes risking one 's life (Pro/Cons).” If someone is able to vote, join the military etc. they should be able to drink at a lower age. At the age of 18 people have so many responsibilities already. It shows the many responsibilities given and people can be responsible with a lowered drinking age. “The ages from 18- to 20-year-old adults should not be denied that enjoyment when other pleasurable activities are legal at age 18”(Pros/Cons). There are so many events and activities that people will do at the age of 18 that requires more responsibilities. If a teenager has a party most likely they will have alcohol.
