The Drinking Age Should Be Lowered
The United States government allows 18 years olds to fight and possibly lose their life for their freedom, but they are not allowed to drink alcohol? “18 is the age of adulthood in the United States, and adults should have the right to make their own decisions about alcohol consumption”(ProCon). It is practically unconstitutional for the government to exert the right to send its youth to death, for a country that you can’t even toast to if you are under 18. The law prohibits anyone under the age of 21 to purchase and consume alcoholic beverages; however since the drinking act was established in 1984, many generations have continued to defy the laws put …show more content…
“If you wanna drink, go ahead. If you mess up, you will be the one getting the consequences” (Schulten). Why does the government have the right to tell teens what they can and can’t do? With or without permission, we’re still gonna go against the grain. It’s the age of rebellion and the more teens are challenged, the more backlash they will face. Lowering the age of drinking would save lives and reduce the amount of accidents due to driving while under the influence. In the United States, you can be a 20 year old married woman with two children, in a home that has a mortgage on it, and serve in the military, but you can’t drink a beer.
People should be permitted to drink at the age of 18 because it will become a moderation for them overtime. If you are fully capable and considered an adult at 18 then why can’t you drink a beer? Learning to control your intake of anything is learned through time. If you allow someone to consume something they were deprived of then

This approach is not only the most sensible but also the safest route to protect our teens.
“The 1984 National Minimum Drinking Age Act, set the drinking age to 21”
(“APIS”). States can still allow legal consumption of alcohol by people younger than 21, but they take away a large sum in tax rates. This system fails the people it was designed to protect. The main reasoning behind the idea of having a drinking age set at
21 is because in 1984, statistics showed that there were more alcohol-related automobile accidents involving people between the ages of 18-21. Since then, the data reflects something completely different. Teens learn how to drive at 16, by 21 you are comfortable on the road, but you have no clue what your limits are with alcohol. Unless you start intaking alcohol little by little. Potentially they could monitor alcohol intake the same way they monitor marijuana. Only allowing a certain amount and for recreational use only. States would make back all of the money they forfeit by lowering the drinking age. They would also be able to monitor any illegal activities taking place by finding
