Cesar Chavez's Effective Union Movement

Did you know that Cesar Chavez was the only picker to create an effective union movement? Cesar Chavez was born in Yuma, Arizona in 1927. He had to move from Arizona to California after the drought and Great Depression. Chaves grew up working in fruit and vegetable fields in the great valleys of California with migrants and refugees from the Dustbowl. He and his family had to move based on the season to maintain their occupation. Chaves later tried, as many had, to organize farm workers. He did so by creating the United Farm Workers of America. Unlike all the others, he had great success and was praised for his achievements for years to come. What was it that set Cesar Chavez apart from the rest? What made Cesar Chavez and effective leader? There were at least three reasons. He was able to recruit from the people, create equal statuses within his movement, and use non-violent protest through fasting and boycotting grape sales. …show more content…
He did so by proving those who underestimated him wrong. He showed the people that he was unlike the others who had attempted to gain justice before him.
