Gary’s Environment During Gary’s adolescence, he was plagued with the burdens of one unfit parent and one absent parent who seemed to be doing well. This alone was enough to force Gary into impulsive thinking and irrational decision making. The problem is that Gary was not able to have a normal childhood because he was born into poverty with an unfit single mother and forced to take on adult responsibilities. He had no idea what good parenting or positive decisions were. At only 17 years old Gary had gotten his girlfriend pregnant and was faced with another battle of adulthood. Their focus is to allow pregnant moms and parenting fathers to finish high school and developing a plan for life after high school while giving them life skills and helping them to achieve self-sufficiency (Chicago Child Care Society, 2016). They would not only help Gary to finish school but would also make home visits after the child is born to ensure that the child is meeting milestones. Personally, Gary would benefit from working with the HSP by building a relationship with someone whom can provide him with the resources, knowledge and skills that he needed to be successful in life as a person, father and possibly a husband. Gary was in no position to create a family he was broken, coming from a dysfunctional home, he did not have the ability to do so. By making Gary aware of resources and the ethical standards of which HSPs are held by, it would build a connection between Gary and the HSP; a trustworthy bond, a newfound respect and a true chance at life. Since Gary had never experienced any truly healthy relationships, this would be the stepping stone in the right direction; it would make him aware of toxic vs nontoxic
