Each foster care provider receives $400 a month for each of their foster children. This money is given to them to support the child and provide them with the necessities they need to survive. (Doyle) These providers do not only fulfill the child with a roof over their heads, clothes on their bodies, and food in their stomach, but also offer them love and compassion. They are supposed to fill in as the parents that the child could never have. Since a child starts off life having to depend on others the amount of trust they have is massive. When a parent does not provide for the child, then they will not trust anyone and become independent. Children who are in foster care do not trust others easily, and this causes a strain in the relationship between the foster parent and the child. Children often get depressed when placed in foster care because they do not know how to bond with their providers. The system tries to put children into a home where they will be loved and cared for. Social services do everything they can to provide kids with the best parents they can get, but every system is flawed. Many providers are just in it for the money or recognition, and this does not help out a child in any way. Foster care also prohibits children from succeeding in school and furthering their educations. While foster care is a great alternative for billions of homeless kids – maybe it is not the best solution we could come up with.
