The government and people of Liberia need to be praised for the determination they had, to defeat Ebola regardless of the limited resources available to them. According to a recent article in Forbes, Liberia has only 50 practicing doctors covering a population of 4 million, this is a huge deficient in the health care infrastructure and this was one of the main reasons for the spread of the deadly virus of Ebola. Just 2 months later 3 new cases emerged from the same family. A 15-year-old boy tested positive after admission to a health facility in the Greater Monrovia area. He was then transferred to the Ebola treatment center along with 5 of his family members. Later on his 8 year old brother and his 40-year-old brother tested positive too. In addition to the family, 149 contacts have been identified so far, including 10 health workers who had been in close contact with the 15-year-old prior to isolation. Investigations to establish the origin of infection are at an early stage. The United Nations remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting the Government of Liberia in remaining at zero cases. And in the past devastating year the major takeaway for the country was, to combat such a deadly disease the country is trying to improve on:
• Improved and resourceful healthcare infrastructure.
• Intensification of technical intervention
• Increased laboratory capacity with reduced result time
• Increased number of beds
• And community engagement
