The focus assessment is detailed nursing assessment of specific body systems that relate to the presenting problem of patient and can also involve one or more body systems (RCHM, 2014). In this assessment it concentrates on a specific system of the body that presents problem. This may involve one or more body system. Assessment done to determine the progress towards achieving a desired outcome is also focused assessments. It is used to gather information on a specific health problem. A focused assessment is key in situations where a quick assessment needs to be done in order to stabilize the patient. Last Pap smear was obtained one year ago with negative results. Last complete blood work was assessed with a physical done one years ago with normal results. Tuberculin test was last done in December 2009, with negative results. Family/Social History
Patient is a single female engineering student, currently residing in New York with her parents. She is a non-smoker, and non-alcoholic. She denies use of illicit drugs. Ms. A does not follow any specific diet, but states to have maintained same weight for the last three years. Her parents support her financially. Patient is the only child of living parents, with no history of any chronic ailments. Denies any other family history of diabetes, hypertension, and epilepsy, cancer, cardiovascular, pulmonary, renal, or thyroid. Review of Systems
General- Patient asserts to typically having good energy level, except confirms easy fatigue and weakness since last several days. She claims to measure at five feet and nine inches, and maintains a stable weight of 128 pounds. However, reports to have possibly lost some weight in the last week. The focused assessment provides a detailed specific analysis of a given body system of a patient. Focused assessment a highly specific assessment focusing on the system or systems involved in the patient 's problem. It addresses focused concerns or symptoms and assesses symptoms restricted to a specific body system. This applies examination methods relevant to assessing the concern or problem as exactly and carefully as possible (Bickley, & Szilagyi, 2009). The subsequent focused assessment will thus concentrate on the patient’s chief complaints to formulate a plan of care and
