Canker Sore Research Paper

Canker sores are often mistaken for cold sores because they look similar. However, aside from the pain that is created by these canker and cold sores they are not the same thing. A canker sore has no known cause, therefore, it is difficult to prevent against it. You can typically find canker sores inside of your mouth, especially on your tongue and gums. This makes it difficult to eat and drink without feeling any pain. While canker sores typically disappear after a few days, dealing with the pain for more than one day can make you miserable. Fortunately, there are a few natural mouthwashes you can use to soothe some of the pain caused by canker sores.

Sage Mouthwash

Sage contains a rosmarinic acid that has the ability to promote anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties throughout the body. This gives sage the ability to cleanse the body of any toxins and bacteria that may be causing pain. In order to make the sage mouthwash, soak fresh sage and a pinch of salt in a cup of warm water for a few minutes. Once a few minutes has elapsed, you can gargle with the mouthwash.

Tea tree has anti-bacterial properties that effectively cleanse the sore and promote healing. The more bacteria that are around, the more painful your sore will feel. Your tea tree mouthwash can be created by adding a few drops of tea tree oil to a warm cup of water. Use the mixture to remove any bacteria in your mouth by swishing it throughout your mouth. While tea tree oil is not harmful in small amounts, it is still important to avoid swallowing any of the mouthwash.
