Can Diamonds be Girls’ Best Friend?
What do you think when you think of sororities? For most people outside of the greek system you think of iconic movies such as House Bunny, Legally Blonde or Sydney White. Though these movies are entertaining, they do not accurately depict what it actually means to be in a sorority and all the benefits you can receive. I joined my sorority Alpha Delta Pi here at the University of South Carolina a little over a year ago and I can truly say it has been the best decision I have ever made. I love this sorority for several reasons mainly for the rich history, sisterhood and friendships I have made that have made me feel at home here at Carolina. I can honestly say joining Alpha Delta Pi at University of South Carolina will be the best decision you will ever make.
Alpha Delta Pi was founded on May, 15, 1851 in Macon, Georgia at the first college for women, Wesleyan College. Not only was it established at the first female college but it was also the first female secret society or sorority as it is now known. It was found by Eugenia Tucker Fitzgerald, Octavia Andrew Rush, Mary Evans Glass, Ella Pierce Turner, Bettie Williams, and Sophronia Woodruff Wilson. Back then the women referred to themselves as the Adelphean Society. It wasn’t until 1913 that Alpha Delta Pi was established as the sorority’s official greek letters.
