Business Communication Trends Good communication in business is crucial to the individual’s success and to the business’ success. Current trends in business communication include social-networking tools, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and video conferencing (Locker & Kienzler, 2008). More corporate workers are rating e-mail access as critical to their workdays, according to a survey by Osterman Research (Hill, 2007). Another up-and-coming trend in business communication is video conferencing. There is a new type of video conferencing called telepresence in which 50-inch plasma screens and broadcast-quality cameras are used to create virtual meetings that are almost lifelike (Locker & Kienzler, 2008). Video conferencing enables people from different locations and countries to put a name and voice to a face and is becoming a valuable tool for businesses. In addition, video conferencing places saves everyone from having to be in the same conference room, saving the company a lot of money by skipping air fare and hotel accommodations and this can be a main advantage (Borlongan, n.d.).
Role Business Communications Play Business communications play a vital role in an individual’s day-to-day activities at work. It would be very hard for an individual to conduct business without the various methods of oral and written business communication.
