Burrillville School Structure

Every school has structure which includes a group of people who work together to achieve a goal. Structure defines how tasks are divided, grouped, and, coordinated. There are many major positions in each school district. In Burrillville RI, there are five schools located in the district. There is one school for pre-k, two for elementary, one middle school, and one high school. The high school serves around 682 students between grades nine to twelve and the middle school serves around 622 students between the grades six to eight. The local, federal, and state are all part of the school structure. My local school district is Burrillville. Every school starts out with the school committee on top. Between primary and secondary education, there are approximately 43,000 students enrolled in a school a year. The state’s cumulative budget is $2.2 billion. They employ approximately 21,000 teachers, administrators, and staff a year. There is a comminisoner in charge of all local school districts whether it’s in city, suburb, or rural areas. Kenneth Wagner is the commissioner in the state of RI. He is part of five different departments. The board of education has seventeen members that are all involved in different sections. The board has many duties to help shape the course of public education. They work hard to make sure all the states students receive the best possible education. The funding and finance department provides direct financial aid to the public schools and students. The state aid is distributed throughout the state and given to all the local schools. The amount of money RI spends annually on public education is $2.3 billion. The instruction and assessment department ensures that the students have access to curriculum with standards. The curriculum is broken down into sections including, literacy, math, science, civics, and other courses. The goal is to have excellent teachers and educators in the classrooms to help the children grow and learn in the teachers and administrators department. Rhode Island’s teacher to-student ratio is 1;11. In the information and accountability department they have members who work to collect a range of data from all schools and districts. Teachers, school leaders, and elected officials, use the data to make decisions on how to turn around low-achieving schools. The last department is the students and families.
