North Carolina Education Lottery Negative Effect

The North Carolina Education Lottery was established in August 2005. In order for the NC Education Lottery to be established, “The North Carolina State Lottery Act and 2005 Appropriation Act was signed into the law by Governor Mike Easley (Campbell).” North Carolina is the forty-second state to use the lottery as a way of funding for education. Since 2007, nine million dollars have been raised for education (About US). Every year, North Carolina’s legislature changes the percentage of the money is going to school construction, pre-kindergarten programs, and scholarships. As of this year, the most percent that is spent on goes to the non-instructional support personnel which is fifty-eight percent. Next, nineteen percent is spent on school constructions. Pre-Kindergarten programs get fifteen percent from the NC education lottery. Concluding to the rest of the eight percent is used to need-based scholarships and UNC financial based grants (About US).
The NC education lottery can be helpful to the public schools because the money has been used to provide Pre-Kindergarten programs, school constructions, and reduce the number of students in a classroom. Another positive effect of the lottery reduces the number of students in a classroom from

Two representatives in North Carolina proposed a House Bill number three hundred thirty-nine. This bill is reserved for one percent going to the advertising of the lottery expenses. One of the reasons for proposing this bill is that the government wants more money to go to public education purposes. States like in Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia praises the official for increasing profits. Mr.Elhart argues the advertisements are ridiculous and they do not encourage people to play the lottery.
