Consistent classroom discussions about bullying will give students the knowledge of how to intercede when they see classmates who are being bullied. While the meetings will inspire prosocial rules and behaviors concerning issues of bullying in the school system (Whitted & Rupper, 2005, para.13). Furthermore, giving the children an opportunity to meet in a large room such as the auditorium, and having the drama team role-play the person that is the actual bully, as well as the individual who is bullied is an excellent example of how students can learn from bullying. Nonetheless, with the assistance of the educators and faculty, encouraging the individuals that are being bullied to be open and speak to someone when they have been bullied will help reduce bullying in the schools. Bullies have a tendency to thrive on secrecy, humiliation and terrorizing their victim to be silent. Communication is also conveyed by non-verbal cues, such as signs, interior decorations within the school, educators, staff, and the exterior of the school (Hellwig, n.d, para.5). However, education and training, along with school policies have been put in place to eliminate and reduce the amount of children attending schools that are bullied daily. Educating the teachers, students, and all faculty members on the subject of bullying is very imperative for all involved. Furthermore, since bullying is one of the most prevalent forms of violence that is affecting the school’s systems in the United States, we must take action to provide all the tools necessary to train staff to abide by all Bullying Laws. Additionally, each student is given a handbook at the beginning of the school year that outlines the seriousness of bullying in the school. The student handbook also gives a description of each offense, as well as the result of bullying and the consequences that would occur if a student is found guilty of bullying another student. Standing up and assisting a child that is bullied is imperative. However, if staff or a student sees the act of bullying in any form, they must take the initiative not just to see the act of bullying taking place, but to respond and react immediately, this can save a child from a lifetime of pain and suffering.
