Buddhism being a religion or a philosophy? When learning about the history of Buddhism some people will think Buddhism is a religion and others will think it is a philosophy. To me personally I feel Buddhism can be either a religion or a philosophy and there are many facts that can help back me up on it. According to dictionary.com Buddhism is “a religion, originated in India by Buddha (Gautama) and later spreading to China, Burma, Japan, Tibet, and parts of southeast Asia, holding that life is full of suffering caused by desire and that the way to end this suffering is through enlightenment that enables one to halt the endless sequence of births and deaths to which one is otherwise subject.” So the dictionary thinks it is a religion but others don’t. It wont be easy to distinguish the difference but I will give you my perspective on it. Buddhism could be either a religion or a philosophy because it entails beliefs that are carried on till this day and has been since 1898 (in the US) but also who can you really trust telling you these stories?
The first Buddha named Theravada he had shown many instances where the Buddha and his followers would have arguments with people from other religions. Some people assumed in an ever lasting entity where others believed in extinction of this entity after this life. These are part of a worldview and strictly related to religion. We also see many references to godly entities and poorer entities, both being outside our sense range. This…
