Breastfeeding is something that is essential to a woman’s health as well as her child’s. Breastfeeding is an act that should be looked at as something natural world wide. However, when it is done publically is when it becomes an issue. Some countries don’t have as many problems as the citizens of the United States do with woman breastfeeding in public. In the article “Is the Breast Better?” , Elizabeth Vargas says, “America has one of the lowest breastfeeding rates of any industrialized country. That could be due, in part, to how uneasy Americans get when it comes to seeing a woman nursing in public.” Meaning that, most people seem to cringe when they come across a woman breastfeeding because they automatically think that when they see a woman’s breast that it is nasty or it’s seen as sexual thing. Breastfeeding in public should be something that is a universal right because just like any other rights this right is one that should be mutually accepted anywhere. If a grown adult can eat in public why can’t a newborn child? The universal right to breastfeed would make women feel a sense of protection.

Women fought hard for their rights, breastfeeding in public should be considered a woman 's right. Taking this away from a woman is not only taking away from her but from her child as well. The truth of the matter is, we all need to eat because we are all humans. Whether it be an adult, senior citizen, teenager, child, or infant. We all have the right to eat in public. An infant eating in public off of their mother’s breast should not stir up as much controversy as it has. Women should be able to go anywhere they please and feed there baby without getting harassed. Breastfeeding in public will in time become a universal right that is accepted and appreciated everywhere, it’s only fair to a mother and her
