Blackjack is 21, Drinking should not Happy Birthday! You're finally 18, legally an adult! What are you going to do first? Maybe buy a pack of cigarettes, or a lotto ticket, or porn; because you're an adult you can do anything you want... except buy alcohol. By current law, to buy and drink alcohol legally one must be at least 21 years of age. But why is this magical number 21? As a legal adult, I do not understand the reason behind not allowing me to drink. President Ronald Reagan passed the national minimum drink age law in 1984. The act stipulates a minimum legal age of 21 for the purchase or public possession of any alcoholic beverage, and incorporates sanctions against states whose laws are not in compliance (Daniloff). Other studies have found that moderate drinking helps with acute hospitalization, aging and Alzheimer's Disease, all-age cognition, Angina Pectoris, Atherosclerosis, blood clots, common cold, Diabetes Mellitus, Essential Tremors, Gallstones, gastro-intestinal problems, High Blood Pressure (Hypertension), Coronary Heart Disease, Mortality and Morbidity, Osteoporosis, strokes, ulcers, and vision (Hanson). I have the rights to gamble, have and use my credit, and vote all rights dealing with some of the greatest responsibilities of life, the future. A lot of problems can arise losing all your money to gambling, messing up your credit and getting into debt, and choosing who is good enough to run this superpower of a country. I am given the choice to commit and devote the rest of my life to someone in holy matrimony, but am not responsible enough to toast my marriage and the rest of my life with someone with champagne? It just doesn't make sense. 18 year olds can be just as responsible or irresponsible with alcohol as 21 year olds, and it is due largely to how they
